The loan of Landon Donovan to Everton leads me to ask: How is it that a professional football player can be “loaned” to another team for only part of a season? Doesn’t that put an asterisk next to that team’s standings at the end of the season (for example, “LIverpool won the Premier League that year, with the help of Wayne Superstar and Tommy Terrific, who were with them for part of the season)?
